While the OC Atheists (and atheists in general) don't have a particular political leaning, I think it's a great thing that many conservative Christian politicians nationwide were handing walking papers yesterday. While I don't think we can count on the Democrats to make huge inroads for church/state separation, I think they're much less likely to cause further trouble. Posted by mikebdoss at November 8, 2006 03:27 PMAs one who has often voted Republican in the past, I am not entirely displeased with the "spanking" they received at the hands of the electorate. Republicans have adapted the worst ideas of the Democrats and mixed them with a religious justification. After many years of complete control over the Federal apparatus, if the best Republicans could come up with is Don Young's $280 million "Bridge to Nowhere," it is clear that they do not deserve to remain in power.

The House and the Senate! The House and the Senate!
Just serve me a helping of Crowingcrow Eggs with Schadenfreude Sauce and a side of Gloatberries!
Just call me "Gloatie McCrowBabe" !!!!
On the serious side, I think the Bush administration and their operatives like Karl Rove really lost touch with their base. According to exit polls, a large number of Independents voted Blue, a good number of Republicans either voted Blue or stayed at home, and ONE THIRD of Evangelicals voted Blue.
There are investigations into voter fraud and suppression being conducted by the FBI in several states, and there is talk that approximately one million votes were electronically flipped. You flip just enough votes in a Democratic district to go for the Republican candidate. Without a paper trail, there is no way to tell.
What Rove didn't count on was REPUBLICANS in REPUBLICAN districts voting Blue. The rout was incredible.
