Here's an email i just sent to the FV city Council:

I understand your City Council is reconsidering a motion to display a sign that reads ‘in God we trust’. I believe that such an attempt for this kind of public display of this is driven by self-seeking religious people trying to promote their beliefs over those of all others… it is not based on any pure sense of patriotism etc. That is a sham.

More and more people, in the Fountain Valley community, and community at large, hold personal beliefs other than those expressed by the religious zealots who were able to get this slogan passed as our motto in the l950’s hysteria of McCarthyism, where everyone who didn’t believe as he did was labeled a ‘communist’.

So the question is a simple one for the Fountain Valley City Council: either maintain some honor and dignity for the significant number of your constituents who would be offended by the public display of such a slogan, and vote NOT to display it, or cave in to the agenda being promoted by Christian-based organized religion and vote for it… thereby offending a significant number of your constituents.

Thank you.

This might be too late, but a group of Backyard Skeptics will be going down to the HB pier on Saturday Aug 30th at 1:30pm to support the skeptic and atheist OC community. Parking is best underground one block up from pch and east of main. - about $12 (yikes!) We'll have handouts and signs to advocate atheism. My cell is 714 394 6153. I hope you can join us.
