The Meetup.com group for Atheists in Orange County is meeting this week, Thursday, at 7PM at the Starbucks in the Orange Circle (the one that used to be a Diedrich, not the one that's also a Wells Fargo). More information is available here. This group's smaller than Orange County Atheists, but good people attend, too. I might even stop by!
Mark sends this on:
What: Public Talk: "Religion vs. Self-Esteem"
When: Wednesday, November 7, 2007, 7:30pm (room open from 6:30pm)
Where: Hilton Costa Mesa, 3050 Bristol St, Costa Mesa
Who: Sponsored by the Ayn Rand Institute
From the Website:
"Religion is almost universally regarded as crucial to achieving happiness. Even critics of religion often concede that it helps people live more fulfilling lives. In this talk, Dr. Edwin A. Locke, Dean's Professor (Emeritus) of Motivation and Leadership at the R.H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, argues that, far from being a means to a successful life, religion is incompatible with a basic need of human life: self-esteem."
The Next Orange County Atheists meeting will take place Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30PM at the International House of Pancakes at 18542 MacArthur Blvd in Irvine, near John Wayne Airport.
A map to the IHOP is available here. Please RSVP at this page to let us know you're coming!
